I adapted this recipe to make my orange chicken.
Here is the list of ingredients that I used:
2 lbs. chicken breast
1 1/2 t salt
1/8 t pepper
3 T oil + oil for frying
1/2 c cornstarch + 1 T cornstarch
1/4 c flour
1 T ginger
1 t garlic
1/2 t crushed red chili pepper
1/4 c green onion
1/4 c carrots
1/4 c celery
1 T rice vinegar
1/4 c water
1/2 t sesame oil
1 1/2 T soy sauce
1 1/2 T water
5 T sugar
5 T rice vinegar
zest of 1 orange
Let's get started!
Start by cutting your chicken breast into bite size pieces and place them into a large bowl.
In a medium sized bowl mix together your eggs...
... salt and pepper...
... and 2 T oil until well combined.
In another bowl stir together 1/2 c cornstarch
Add your flour mixture into your egg mixture.
Add your egg/flour to the chicken and stir to coat.
Heat oil to cook chicken.
Add small batches of chicken at a time and cook for about six minutes or until golden brown.
Continue this process until all of your chicken is cooked.
While you are cooking your chicken mix together the orange sauce.
Stir together soy sauce, water, sugar, and rice vinegar.
Once the orange sauce is mixed together start to chop your veggies.
I served my orange chicken with chow mein noodles, so if you are going to do the same start your noodles now.
Put a 1 T of oil in a pan over medium/high heat.
Add, garlic and ginger to pan and cook until fragrant.
Add in your veggies and red chili pepper.
Pour in the rice vinegar.
Add in the orange sauce and bring it to a boil.
Add your chicken to the pan. Mix until well combined.
Mix 1/4 c water with 1 T of cornstarch and add it to the chicken.
Heat chicken until sauce is thickened the add zest and sesame oil.
And it's all set, serve it over your chow mein or rice or just eat it plain.
Enjoy! Lane Elizabeth
